Specs
Length – Adjustable from 2.5ft to 7ft
Width – 3/4 inch
Summary
The Ruffwear Switchbak offers excellent versatility and comfort with its adjustable, lightweight design and high-quality hardware—perfect for switching between settings like handheld walks, waist wear, or coupler mode. However, it may not withstand aggressive pulling or chewing and lacks a dedicated traffic handle for quick control, while the sliding components and length options might feel cumbersome to some. If you’re seeking a flexible, everyday leash for moderate use, this is a strong contender—just be mindful of your dog’s behavior and needs.
Versatile and Adjustable - The leash adapts effortlessly to multiple configurations—handheld, waist-worn, shoulder-style, coupler, or double-clip—thanks to sliding V-rings and 2.5–7 ft adjustability.
Lightweight - It’s made with silicone-dipped polyester webbing that feels great in hand and is easy to adjust smoothly while staying light enough for everyday carry.
Durable - Dual Crux™ aluminum clips and sturdy webbing hold up under regular use and support hands-free options like cross-body wear and coupler setups.
Not Ideal for Aggressive Pullers or Chewers - While strong for most users, it’s not recommended for dogs that chew through leash materials or pull hard—clips may slip and webbing may wear.
Noisy for Some - Some report the sliding parts or design create noise during movement, and the leash balance or length may feel off, especially for small dogs.
Given its versatility, I use this leash as my day-to-day leash now as well.

Summary
The Ruffwear Grip Trex Dog Boots are a top choice for tackling rugged terrain and tough surfaces, thanks to their reliable traction, breathable build, and snug fit. However, prospective buyers should note that correct sizing is vital to prevent chafing, and while breathable, they’re not waterproof and can retain moisture after wet use. For dog owners needing durable, all-terrain paw protection (especially for hiking or urban use), these boots are a solid option—just measure carefully and monitor your pup’s fit and comfort.
Well-Fitting & Size-Specific - Sold in pairs across eight sizes, allows you to get shoes that fit your dogs front and back paws (dogs often have wider front paws than back paws). The gusset and Velcro system ensures a secure fit without slipping.
Breathable & Comfortable - Featuring a lightweight, low-profile design with breathable mesh, these boots keep paws cool while protecting them from debris. Many dogs adjust quickly and show minimal fuss, even during prolonged use.
Excellent Traction - The Vibram rubber sole offers exceptional grip across varied terrain—from slick rocks to hot pavement—making it ideal for outdoor adventures. Reviewers report using them on thru-hikes totaling over 1,000 miles with impressive durability
Sizing Can Be Tricky - Accurate measurement is essential; incorrect size leads to discomfort or slippage. The limited adjustment means returns or exchanges might be necessary
Slow to Dry - While highly breathable, the mesh upper isn’t waterproof and dries slowly—so they may hold moisture after water or snow exposure
Dill doesn’t wear her booties all the time, but I make sure to carry them on all our hikes. Throughout the hike, I monitor her paws and the temperature of the trail to see if we should put them on.
Make sure to measure your dog’s paws twice! I got the size of my dogs back paws wrong the first time, so I had to return and reorder. Not a huge deal, but if you were coming up close to a trip, you might not have time for that.

Ruffwear Front Range Day Pack

Durable, Weather-Resistant Materials
Great Storage & Load Management
Bulky for Small Dogs or Narrow Trails
Limited Capacity For Longer Trips
Specs
Size | Weight | Storage Capacity
XS | 0.7 lb | 4.5 L
S | 0.95 lb | 8 L
M | 1.05 lb | 10.5 L
L/XL | 1.35 lb | 18.5 L
Summary
The Ruffwear Front Range Day Pack is well-regarded for its adjustable fit, rugged durability, thoughtful load distribution, and spacious storage—making it a reliable pick for both day hikes and short overnights. Dill uses hers for multi-day hikes as well, but I don’t have her carry her food. However, the bulkier saddlebags can snag on tight trails, and the pack doesn’t include hydration accessories. Additionally, its over-the-head design may not suit every dog’s comfort or walking style.
Easy to Fit & Secure - The pack features five adjustment points, allowing a snug, customized fit that stays put even on active hikes.
Durable, Weather-Resistant Materials - Crafted from 300-denier ripstop polyester with reinforced stitching and foam padding, the front range pack resists wear from brush, rocks, and wet conditions.
Great Storage & Load Management - The weight-forward saddlebag design and internal stretch pockets provide solid load distribution for day or overnight hikes.
Bulky for Small Dogs or Narrow Trails - The pack's saddlebags can feel oversized on smaller dogs and may catch on brush or tight trail sections. While it provides ample storage, the added width can make maneuvering more difficult in dense terrain.
Limited Capacity For Longer Trips - If you are doing multiple days and you want your dog to carry their food, you might want something with a bit more storage.
I don’t put a ton of weight in Dills pack, as she only weighs about 35 pounds. I do use it to carry her boots, dog bowl, extra poop bags, small water filter, and trail treats. Having it on her helps for easier access on the trail rather than having to take my pack off each time.

Ruffwear Quencher Packable Dog Bowl

$19.95
Ultra-Light and Compact
Waterproof and Sturdy Construction
Easy to Clean and Fast-Drying
Side Walls Can Flop
Lacks Built-in Carabiner
Specs
Opening – 5.5 inches
Capacity – 1 Liter
Weight – 1.6 Ounces
Summary
The Ruffwear Quencher Packable Dog Bowl is a top pick for lightweight, on-the-go hydration and feeding, thanks to its compact, waterproof design and easy-care maintenance. It’s ideal for backpacking, camping, or car rides. However, its lightweight fabric walls can collapse if a dog is enthusiastic about eating or drinking, and the loop is less secure than stitched designs. Additionally, it requires a separate carabiner to attach it properly to packs or gear. If you’re looking for a portable, reliable bowl and don’t mind these minor trade-offs, the Quencher delivers exceptional value and performance.
Ultra-Light and Compact - The Quencher bowl collapses flat and weighs just over an ounce and a half, making it perfect for hikers, road trips, or quick outings. Its fits in a pocket or easily into the saddlebag of the Front Range Day Pack, while leaving plenty of room for other essentials.
Waterproof and Sturdy Construction - With a waterproof lining, the bowl effectively retains liquids without leaking, and its fabric shell holds its shape when filled. Many users say it's “sturdy and reliable” even after rugged use.
Easy to Clean and Fast-Drying - The design easy to hand-wash, and it dries quickly after use.
Side Walls Can Flop - The bowl may collapse or flop if dogs eat or drink aggressively. With Dill, we only had that issue once when she came in a to drink fast but worth a call out.
Lacks Built-in Carabiner - The included loop doesn’t support a carabiner directly, meaning you’ll need to add your own attachment method for easy carry or tethering. Not a deal breaker for me, but other options come with one.
Some may prefer a bowl for water and food, but for backpacking, I just carry 1. The Quencher is easy enough to clean that it’s easy to go from food bowl to water bowl after Dill finishes her meal.

XS | 17 – 22 inches
S | 22 – 27 inches
M | 27 – 32 inches
L | 32 – 36 inches
XL | 36 – 42 inches
Summary
The Ruffwear Swamp Cooler Dog Vest delivers a loose fit and utilizes evaporative cooling to reduce body temperature and protect against sun exposure—ideal for hot-weather hikes. It’s durable, washable, and was well-accepted by my dog. It did require regular wetting and, from what I’ve read, may not perform as well in humid climates. Its bulkier build might be less suitable for when space might be limited, like backpacking. Overall, it’s a smart choice for providing temperature relief during your dog’s adventures, especially in dry, sunny conditions.
Loose, Comfortable Fit & Easy to Wear - The vest’s intentionally relaxed design adapts well to various body shapes and can even be worn over a harness, making it easy for most dogs to tolerate without restriction. Dill enjoyed wearing this around camp and on our day hikes.
Effective Evaporative Cooling & Sun Protection - Featuring three layers—reflective mesh, water-absorbing felt, and a dry lining—the vest provides extended cooling for 2–6 hours and helps shield dogs from hot sunlight.
Durable, Lightweight, and Washable - Made of robust, quality outer mesh, the vest is lightweight and durable enough for frequent use. It’s easily machine-washable making it easy to clean after a trip. Will note, its lightweight when dry, when weight it can be heavy.
Expensive - On the expensive end compared to other competitors.
Bulky - While lightweight, it is a bit bulky which can make it hard to pack particularly when backpacking.
In the hotter months, I find it beneficial to take a cooling vest to keep Dill from overheating. Not only does it stay wet it helps reflect the sun away from her dark fur!
